Originally built as a citadel in the 13th century and then enlarged towards the end of the 16th century to form a strong fortress, one of the most modern in Europe at the time.
The seafront promenade winds its way 2.4 kilometres from Varberg Fortress, along the seafront and all the way down to Lilla Apelviken. Enjoy the stunning scenery and salty breeze!
