The history of Varbergs Stadshotell<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Varbergs Stadshotell has a fascinating history. The town hall began to be used as early as 1901 with a number of shops on the first floor. Hotel operations started in the fall of 1902. Among other things, the hotel was one of the first buildings to be electrified and the final bill for the entire Stadshuset amounted to almost SEK 450,000! <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n

The creation of Stadshuset<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

On February 24, 1898, Alfred Lundgren submitted a motion to the city council. He had an idea that Varberg needed a city hotel, which he then expanded into a Town Hall. He wrote: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAs a city hotel with or without shops on the lower ground floor could be a profitable business for the city, I hereby propose that Mr. City Council appoints a committee that is commissioned to prepare cost and income calculations regarding such an enterprise and to submit a report to the City Council as soon as possible.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The motion was passed and on August 23, 1902, the official inauguration dinner was held at Varberg Town Hall. Since then, the building has been a natural gathering point in Varberg. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n

The hotel has existed since its inauguration<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Originally, the building was home to Bergqvist\u2019s delicatessen, Wetterlund\u2019s drapery shop, the post office, Ivar Johansson\u2019s gentlemen\u2019s hairdressing salon, the Misses Hertzberg\u2019s fashion boutique, as well as Kindvall\u2019s bookshop and printing house, the local liquor company and, of course, the hotel. The building also housed the fire brigade and the city ombudsman\u2019s office. Today, Varbergs Stadshotell is the only establishment that has remained in the building since it first opened. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just imagine everything that has taken place under this one roof! It\u2019s quite a thought \u2013 and so exciting to follow the building\u2019s story as it continues into the future. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

preserved interior<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Inside, the richly decorated staircase, featuring elements of both Neo-Renaissance and Art Nouveau, has been beautifully preserved. Its large windows feature decorative glass with stylised motifs inspired by plants and water. The windows also display Varberg\u2019s coat of arms, with its goat, tower and tree, as well as the county coat of arms with its distinctive lion. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n
